CAR 604 Analysis (Second Edition)

Author: Scott Macpherson

TrainingPort.net has created a table that compares recurrent training for an identical Canadian operator across three Canadian regulatory environments: POC BAOSS, CAR 704 (Commercial), and CAR 604 (Private Operator). The topics needed for each environment are listed, as well as the prescribed training periodicity.

The length of the document represents the realistic amount of time a trainee has to train, while trying to fly and carry out other duties. Time to train according to risk suffers as prescribed training increases, as can be seen.

What is not obvious from this document (we had to choose a dimension to show, for simplicity) is that though there are more topics as you move to the right in the document, the periodicities imposed by CAR 604 increase the amount of time required to complete the prescribed training. It is at least double the CAR 704 prescribed elements. As previously written and demonstrated through exam data, more frequent training does not automatically improve comprehension.

This is current as of February 2016.
