Behind the Scenes at Airborne Weather Radar

We just released a new topic to our online storefront – Airborne Weather Radar (available for purchase on its own or as part of a limited time promotional package with Single Pilot Resource Management). Here’s a look at the behind-the scenes effort that went into building it.

All of our lessons, including Airborne Weather Radar, are built in partnership with industry experts, or SMEs. They provide us with the raw information we use to create new training. This information is delivered to our team of in-house technical writers, who edit, organize, and mould it into clear and concise lessons.

The writing phase is followed by the graphics development phase. Depending on the topic, our professional photographers may set up a shoot to gather imagery for videos and other graphics.

Our in-house graphics team uses these images to create unique videos and kinesthetic graphics designed to appeal to multiple learning styles. For Airborne Weather Radar, we combined our photos with those taken by our SME, Erik Eliel. Mr Eliel is a professional pilot with over 10,000 hours of flying time and a published expert on airborne weather radar.

Upon completion, Airborne Weather Radar, like all of our topics, was subjected to several vigorous review phases. The production team, SME, and technical advisors provided feedback and instructions for revision. Care is always taken to ensure that the lessons are not only technically accurate and engaging, but will provide value and solve problems for trainees.

Following our QA processes, the topic was made available for purchase through our storefront.

But the story doesn’t end here—all of our lessons are subjected to ongoing QA. After an average of 2 years, we will return to the topic and perform a full revision, re-assessing the information in light of any technological updates, regulatory changes, and so on. It’s a long process, but the end result is a training suite that is superior to anything else on the market, which will increase operational safety for our clients.
