Key Industry Events at NBAA Business Aviation Convention and Exposition (BACE)

The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) will be holding its annual Business Aviation Convention and Exposition (BACE) in Orlando, Florida from November 1-3, 2016. This event is a cornerstone event for NBAA and the business aviation community, and it offers multiple opportunities for those wishing to view the latest aircraft and technologies, as well as to hear from industry experts and participate in educational opportunities.

The latter purpose is highlighted by two events that are of paramount concern to single-pilot light business aircraft operators (LBA) and attendees interested in safety issues and solutions. Both events are being orchestrated by the NBAA Safety Committee.

The first event is the Single-Pilot Safety Stand Down (SPSS). It is being held on Monday, October 31, the day before the convention begins. The theme this year is risk management for single-pilot operators. The event features presentations by the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and Robert Wright of Wright Aviation Solutions, LLC (a risk management subject matter expert and author of the Single-Pilot Resource Management Course hosted by TrainingPort.net). It also includes two panels of experts from the training community and aircraft owner organizations. TrainingPort’s own Scott Macpherson will be a panelist on the training community panel. Participants who attend this event will receive a thorough exposure to current procedures on single-pilot resource management (SRM), as well as risk management.

The second event is the National Safety Forum (NSF), which will be held on November 3, the last day of BACE. This event will feature senior officials from the NTSB and the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), as well as key industry leaders and subject matter experts. A wide variety of safety subjects will be covered and participants will have an opportunity to interface with government and industry leaders. A key feature of this event will be a fictional case study of a typical business aviation accident. It will offer a typical outcome version of such an event, as well as an alternate outcome that shows the pilot taking actions that could have prevented the accident.

Both of these events will offer single-pilot LBA operators a chance to focus on issues which directly affect their daily flight operations, especially risk management and SRM. Additional information and registration procedures for NBAA BACE can be found on the NBAA web site, www.nbaa.org.
