Weathering the Storm by Brian Laird

From my home in Florida, I was completely awe-struck watching the arctic blast that took aim at Texas last month. Most of my family lives in the Dallas area and when the winter weather began, they all seemed delighted. I was getting pictures of snow angels, snowmen, and all the local sights covered in a blanket of fresh powder. Everyone was all smiles.

It wasn’t long until the effects the cold temperatures were having on the power grid began to surface. My families’ power went out, and pictures of snow angels were replaced with pictures of pots of water being boiled in the living room fireplace. The power stayed off for 5 straight days, but somehow everyone was still smiling. They were able to weather the storm by remaining positive and crafting solutions to move forward.

The aviation industry has been weathering a storm of its own. Unlike my family’s 5-day struggle, we are now entering the 13th month of our journey to return to normalcy from the Covid-19 pandemic. Business aviation has again proven to be agile and resilient, with the North American market leading the recovery efforts.

My role at TrainingPort allows me to connect with our U.S. client partners. I am continuously amazed and encouraged by listening to how your flight departments have adapted to weather the storm of the pandemic. Although perhaps I shouldn’t be too surprised because that’s what business aviation professionals do… they identify hazards and craft solutions to mitigate the risks so that forward progress can safely continue.

At TrainingPort, we remain committed to being more than a vendor or provider. Instead, we seek to be a trusted partner and a friend that you can count on in turbulent times. Although the end of this storm hasn’t come into full focus just yet, it is clear that hope is on the horizon. Last week we received word that NBAA-BACE will be returning as an in-person event in October. We are excited and hopeful that we will be able to see and connect with as many of you there as possible. We will continue to weather this storm alongside you, and we believe that we will be stronger for enduring it and stronger because we did it together.
